NATIONAL COMMUNICATIONS MUSEUM
RADICAL COMPUTING, 2026
Opened in 2024, the National Communication Museum (NCM) is a hands-on place to explore how we talk to each other, and how that keeps changing. With family-friendly exhibitions and plenty to touch, try and play with, there’s something here for curious visitors of all ages.
NCM engaged Zilla & Brook to deliver the publicity campaign for its new temporary exhibition, Radical Computing. Guest-curated by designer and technologist Mel Huang, the exhibition traces the story of computing, from room-sized machines few people could get near to the personal computers we made our own. It invites visitors to think about the creative tools now in everyone’s hands, and how radical that idea once was.
“Radical Computing is my love letter to the personal computer and all those who tinker, mould, extend, stretch, hack, subvert and make with the materiality of code,” said Huang. “The personal computer was a radical object, the notion that you could own your own computer was a radical idea.”
The campaign drew strong national media interest. Highlights included a feature via Australian Associated Press, a Conversations interview on RN with Mel Huang and host Benjamin Law,, RN Sunday Extra, ABC Radio Melbourne and Triple R, plus numerous other radio interviews.
